We often use porcelain veneers to rejuvenate the appearance of a smile that has faded over the years. Veneers are small porcelain shells that slip over your teeth to mask cosmetic imperfections. Once placed, veneers blend in beautifully with your surrounding teeth and improve the evenness and symmetry of your teeth. If you would like more information about porcelain veneers, one of our cosmetic dentists can review your options with you during a personal, no-fee consultation.

Porcelain Veneers Candidates

You may be a candidate for porcelain veneer treatment if you have one or more of the following:

  • Worn tooth enamel
  • Uneven tooth alignment
  • Uneven tooth spacing
  • Stains or discoloration
  • Chips
  • Cracks
  • Unhappiness with the appearance of your teeth or smile

We can provide more information about customized, comprehensive restorative dentistry options, including veneers, dentures and dental implants during a free personal consultation with you.

The Veneer Placement Process

The veneer placement process is simple and usually involves two to four visits over the course of six to eight weeks. The process usually begins with a computerized "mock-up" of your smile to give you an idea of the results before we begin. Second: we take impressions and photos to send to the lab for fabrication of a "wax-up" which we use to design your smile and temporaries. The next step is to prepare the teeth for the veneers; this may entail removing a small amount of tooth structure in order for the veneer to fit correctly and comfortably. At the conclusion of this appointment you will leave with your new smile in temporary veneers. After several weeks of trying them out, you will return for the placement of the final restorations. We ensure a perfect fit and total satisfaction with the comfort and appearance of your new smile. Time of treatment can vary based on the complexity of your makeover.

Recovering from Veneer Placement

You will be able to eat and drink normally with your new veneer immediately after placement. It's important to take good care of the veneer over time, as porcelain is susceptible to fracture, just like natural teeth. To avoid fracturing your veneers, do not bite or chew on hard objects such as nut shells or bones. We will explain how to care for the veneer, and will list the foods to avoid.

Benefits of Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers improve the appearance of your smile, thus helping you to feel more comfortable smiling, speaking and eating in front of others. Veneers are comfortable and will not irritate your gums or affect your surrounding teeth. With the proper care and maintenance, veneers can last for many years.
